Mr Paul Cathcart is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in prostate cancer and robotic prostate surgery. He joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ as a consultant in 2015, following a consultant appointment at University College London Hospitals (UCLH), which he held from 2011.
Mr Cathcart has performed more than 2,000 robotic prostatectomies and continues to perform approximately 200 each year. His practice includes nerve-sparing robotic prostatectomy, with careful consideration given to cancer control alongside the preservation of urinary continence and sexual function.
He has particular experience in the treatment of recurrent prostate cancer and leads a specialist multidisciplinary team (MDT) clinic for men whose cancer has returned following previous treatment. His work in this area includes salvage robotic radical prostatectomy, a complex form of surgery undertaken at a limited number of specialist centres in the UK.
Mr Cathcart takes a considered and individual approach to each patient’s care. He explains the findings and treatment options clearly, including the potential benefits and implications of each approach, and works with patients to reach decisions that reflect both their clinical needs and what matters most to them.
Research and education form an important part of Mr Cathcart’s work. He is Chief Investigator of the RAFT study in prostate cancer and has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, including work published in European Urology, BJU International, the Journal of Clinical Oncology and The Journal of Urology. He is also regularly invited to lecture on prostate cancer surgery in the UK and internationally.
Mr Cathcart has held several senior roles within urological training and clinical audit. He is a former London Training Programme Director for Specialist Urology Registrar Training and former Clinical Co-ordinator of the National Prostate Cancer Audit, and has served as a national selector for urology training posts.
His practice encompasses the prostate cancer pathway from the investigation of a raised PSA and assessment of newly diagnosed disease to robotic prostatectomy, second opinions and the management of recurrent prostate cancer, providing patients with specialist guidance and continuity throughout their care.

Mr Cathcart leads a specialist prostate cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT), reviewing patients following prostate biopsy and providing specialist input into treatment planning. The MDT also manages recurrent and complex prostate cancer, including patients being considered for salvage robotic radical prostatectomy after previous treatment.
Symptoms
You do not need to have symptoms or a confirmed diagnosis to seek specialist advice. Many patients are referred following a raised PSA, an abnormal test result or a change that needs further investigation. Mr Cathcart can assess your individual circumstances and advise whether further tests or treatment may be needed.
Most urinary symptoms are not associated with cancer and are more commonly caused by benign conditions affecting the prostate or bladder. Similarly, a raised PSA can occur for a number of reasons, while prostate cancer, particularly in its early stages, may cause no symptoms at all.
Symptoms and test results should therefore be considered in the context of your overall clinical picture. A specialist consultation allows your consultant to assess your individual circumstances, review any existing investigations and, where appropriate, recommend further tests or treatment.

Together, the consultants provide comprehensive care across five specialist clinics: Urological Cancer, Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Stone Disease and Adolescent Urology. If your symptoms require expertise outside Mr Cathcart’s specialist practice, you can be referred seamlessly to an appropriate colleague within London Urology Specialists, ensuring continuity of care without the need to seek treatment elsewhere.
The principal consulting rooms are at 18 Devonshire Street, on The Harley Street Clinic campus. Consultants also hold practising privileges at St John & St Elizabeth Hospital, Welbeck Hospital, Cleveland Clinic London and the Chelsea Outpatient Centre, offering patients a choice of convenient locations across London.
